That question was recently answered with beaming smiles and flowing locks by the guests of H.I.S. House in Placentia – a program that provides transitional shelter to homeless adults and families that have shown the capacity to regain self-sufficiency. Part of the road to a better future sometimes involves restoring the self-confidence needed to secure gainful employment. Here enters Beauty Avenue in Placentia, where getting ahead can be furthered by a head of beautiful hair!
”We believe our success is not measured by what we have, but by what we give,” offered Daniel Oh. “We are reminded daily how fragile life can be, and how thankfully blessed we are to have an opportunity to help people in need.”
Yes, part of looking the part is maintaining one – so H.I.S. House families received free haircuts (and more) in order to prepare them for life outside the shelter. Bling bags replete with limited-edition Marilyn Monroe T-Shirts, and hairsprays, shampoos, thermal sprays and other goodies from Sexy Hair Products made sure the participants could maintain their great new looks after the event.
“We wanted to offer what we do best, wash, cut, and style their hair so they could look their best. Frances provided waxes to the lovely mothers while Perla, Hee K, Tammy, Tracy, Letty and Diane cut and blow dried all the wonderful participants with love and style. These hairstylist are the best of the best, constantly learning new techniques and know how to transform average into beautiful! Erica from Sexy made sure we had everything we needed – we are so thankful for their generosity! We also wanted to use this time to pamper them.”
Pampering included delicious eats from Craftsman Pizza for this well- fed cut-a-thon. “When I told Joe at Craftsman Pizza about H.I.S. House, he instantly volunteered to be a part of it,” beamed the humbled owner. “We are lucky to have one of the most generous neighbors in our plaza.”
H.I.S. House staff coordinated the arriving families, while stylists donated their services. Debra, (a Director at H.I.S. House), even made a touching donation of her hair to the WIGS for KIDS organization, in honor of her mom, who suffered with brain cancer.
Generous people made this such a successful event, that talks of next year are already under way. Join in by contacting Daniel at Beauty Avenue.
